L(ove)FW SS10: Day 1 - Michael Van Der Ham

There surely was no doubt in anyone's mind that Lulu Kennedy is Fairy Godmother to young, British designers looking for a platform to launch their careers. If, for some bizarre reason, this needed validation, this season's Fashion East selection must surely do it. I will try and post separately for the other two designers that took part in it, Holly Fulton who was so fantastic, and Heikki Salonen who also showed great promise, but during my slightly dizzying walk through the corridors of Somerset House, it was three mannequins dressed in Michael Van Der Ham's previous collection that put a smile in my face and made me dream of parties to go to in one of those! Like a mad scientist with a great sense of style, Michael creates collages of fabrics, colours, textures and lengths and then taps them with Lulu's magic wand and turns them into dreamy dresses to wear to the Ball! Honest.
