Sartorialisms: Pull My Strings.

Help, lovely people of the TINternet. Do you know something about this violin bag? I saw it on the pretty amazing StreetFSN blog and I'm simply in love with it. Merci!

Sartorialisms: Vanessa Jackman snapped me...

...and I couldn't be happier!

If you have been reading this blog for a little while now (and I can't thank you enough for that!) or if you have just stumbled upon it (hello and come back soon!) one thing will be very clear to you, I think. That I don't include many, if any at all, pictures of myself. This was nothing more than a conscious choice right at the beginning that this space will be dedicated to people and places I like that, for one reason or another, I don't get the chance to write about in my work as a freelance writer.

Even I, however, could not resist the urge to repost these pics from Vanessa Jackman's blog - even if the person in them is little, ol' me! I have been a fan of Vanessa's lovely blog for a long time now and when I first met her in person outside the Somerset House tents at London Fashion Week a few seasons ago I was taken back by how lovely and delightful she was in person too! These pics here were taken as I was leaving the Erdem show in February and - of course! - I had just resumed my show schedule following a quick stop at home which means that minimal, if any, attention was paid to the *ahem* 'look' but Vanessa's eye went straight to my bright red satchel from the Cambridge Satchel Company (a Christmas present thanks to T) and I couldn't be happier! I later sent Vanessa this pic on Twitter to say that Satchel was pretty happy about it all too! And now you've learnt another thing about me and this blog: I take silly pics with fruits and send them to people. Oops!

All images by Vanessa Jackman apart from the silly one that's obviously been taken by me!

ps: to the anonymous commenter who at the end of Vanessa's post suggested that my blog's name is not as original as I may think, I'd like to kindly offer a suggestion that he/she might just find enlightening: please, visit my blog and scroll down until you see the little slideshow dedicated to the 1989 Hayao Miyazaki film, Kiki's Delivery Service.

Sartorialisms: Tommy's On It!

I've expressed my love here before for Tommy Ton's pretty well honed skill at spotting (ahem!) the little details that make a look unique and set it apart from others just-pulled-off-the-runway; the way a belt is buckled, a shirt half-tucked in, the personal heirloom dangling next to the season's must-have. And here we have it again - this is the season for spots, you say? Spots I - via Tommy - give you!

Sartorialisms: On the fold!

How simply perfect is Garance's vintage Delvaux bag with the fold being just right? And how perfect is Garance herself in her washed jeans, white tee and camera? And did I mention perfection already?

Sartorialisms: When one is simply not enough!

For the girl that spent an entire summer wearing two watches on the same arm just because she thought it looked 'cool' and has considered 'bringing it back' ever since this image from is the closest to a belated 'you were right and oh, so misjudged' she could ever wish for! Thanks Tommy.

Sartorialisms: Long and pretty and oh, so summery!

I find Maya's images, at her blog Turned Out, to be so well-thought out and carefully chosen that they always make me pause for thought (not an easy task for this image-addict, trust me!). This is how I long to spend my summer; stripes, floaty long skirts and dresses, chunky heels, hair up. Easy!

Sartorialisms: Un petit-déjeuner très chic!

I don't know if she's actually there for breakfast or not and franfly, I don't care. I'd like to believe that she woke up in her beautiful pyjama bottoms, threw on a perfectly cut blazer and her converse and went out for a cafe au lait or two! Why not? Ça c'est Paris, after all!
These are the shots that make The Sart so special!

Sartorialisms: Tommy goes for details...

This space may start to look like a Tommy Ton fest but hey, nothing wrong with that, right? I do love it when photographers zoom into those little details that make an outfit special; a roll of a sleeve, a small brooch, textures clashing. His Highness The Sart is, of course, the master of this but I really like what Tommy Ton has been doing over at style.com this season (he's had some big brogues to fill!), especially when he focuses on such details. After all, the guy can shoot a shoe like none other!
The stripes, the print, the fringing, the leather and the denim!
A small roll of the hem et voila!
Pile it on, pile it on! This reminds me of this.
You can feel the softness of the silk and I just love that tan leather and the clasp...

Sartorialisms: Atonement-chic.

As soon as I saw this girl, with her green silk dress and red lips, one single image got stuck in my head: Keira Knightley in Atonement, in what's known in my household as 'that dress'! So pretty.

Sartorialisms: Ooh, Joos!

OK, I know that title sounds silly and Natalie Joos, super-agent, is probably sick and tired of schoolyard nicknames like that but...it's late, I just got back from the first pre-LFW presentation (more to come later) so that's the most I can do.

I'm so glad The Sart has gone back to taking close-up shots of those quirky little details that make some outfits fantastic! And I was even more happy when I saw that over at Jak&Jil, Tommy Ton had another pic of a smiley Natalie. One to watch!

Sartorialisms: Cool girl, cool hair!

Taylor Tomasi, Accessories Director at Teen Vogue, has the best hair colour. Ever. That's all.

Sartorialisms: So, it's began...

New York Fashion Week is well on its way, London starts on Friday...I have a feeling there'll be quite a few Giovanna posts this season! Thanks Garance!!!

Sartorialisms: Wear it - Live it.

Aurora (great name!) Sansone, assistant to Anna Dello Russo, before and after she got chilly (I'm guessing) and threw the shrunken tiny knit on top. Don't you just love the way she's put her hair up?

Sartorialisms: All that sparkles!

Doesn't it just make sooooo much sense that she would wear them all at once? It does to me, and this coming from a person that can't wear anything more than a big necklace or a bangle at once. And don't get me started about earrings! This also reminds me of that summer I went through when I was about 10 or 11 and decided to wear two watches together on the same arm. It just looked good, it made sense. Oh yeah, and I wore half of my short bob hair in a side ponytail too. Somehow, that didn't make sense!

Sartorialisms: Ciao Giovanna!

I absolutely love Giovanna Battaglia. I mean, how could you not? Every time I see a picture of her by The Sartorialist or Garance Doré my heart races faster (I know, I know!) and my face gets as close to my laptop screen as possible, to take in every little detail. Roll on Fashion Weeks!

Sartorialisms: Easy, breezy!

The shoes, the skirt, the vest, the bag, the pose. Easy.

Sartorialisms: No words!

I have no words to describe just how much I love this Milanese lady's sense of style; from the rolled sleeves and slightly upturned collar of her mac to the way she's tied its belt, the bright colour of her dress and perfectly coiffed hair. I imagine she was getting ready for church or a friend's party and just threw her coat and comfy shoes on to take her cute dog for a walk. Thank you Scott Schuman!
